The Pressure to Launch New Software Products

According to a study commissioned by Dynatrace, development teams still spend 27% of their time on manual tasks

The launch of new software products will increase over the next two years by an average of 58%, which translates into a need to reduce development time and, consequently, threatens its quality. This is one of the main conclusions of an independent global study commissioned by Dynatrace to understand the main challenges that companies face in keeping up with digital innovation and carried out among 1,300 developers and DevOps managers.
The software intelligence company highlights in this study that nearly a quarter of respondents (22%) admit that they are often under so much pressure to meet the demand for faster innovation that they must sacrifice code quality. To mitigate this problem, there is almost unanimity that the practice of DevOps is essential to achieving speed and quality. Thus, 98% of those surveyed say that extending DevOps to more applications is key to digital transformation and optimizing the customer experience.
Another big problem is time. Development teams spend 27% of their time on manual CI/CD (continuous integration/continuous deployment) tasks, reducing the time spent on innovation. This is why increasing end-to-end cloud automation and observability are essential for DevOps. According to the study, 62% of organizations are investing in automating manual CI/CD tasks, the same percentage are investing in eliminating manual incident responses, and 45% are investing in end-to-end observability to drive developer productivity.

Involvement of AI

Similarly, 79% of respondents see applying AI throughout the software products development lifecycle as critical and believe extending AIOps (Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations) beyond traditional use cases will play a role. key to the future success of DevOps and SRE practices. For their part, 74% of participants say that end-to-end observability will be essential for DevOps in the future, while 71% say that a unified platform that seamlessly integrates their toolchains will be essential to scale DevOps beyond a single project.
Research reveals that scaling DevOps and SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) practices is critical to accelerating the launch of high-quality digital services. However, according to this same study, isolated teams, manual approaches, and increasingly complex tools slow down innovation and make teams more reactive than proactive, impeding their ability to generate value for the business. The 2021 global report, Deep Cloud Observability, and Advanced AIOps are Key to Scaling DevOps Practices, is available for download here.
According to Andreas Grabner, Director of Strategic Partners at Dynatrace “In today’s hyper-digital age, organizations must deliver innovation faster than ever before. DevOps and SRE practices are critical to achieving this goal, but organizations are struggling to scale them to drive maximum speed, quality, and reliability.
The report is based on a global survey of 1,300 senior development and DevOps leaders at large companies with 1,000+ employees, conducted by Coleman Parkes and commissioned by Dynatrace. The sample includes 200 respondents in the US, 100 in Latin America, 600 in Europe, 250 in the Asia Pacific, and 150 in the Middle East.
